Napatree Point Conservation Area is managed by the Park Commission of the Watch Hill Fire District and the Watch Hill Conservancy as an ecological preserve and a wildlife refuge.
For the protection of our visitors and of this fragile habitat, guests must follow the rules set forth by the Town of Westerly, the State of Rhode Island, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Park Commission:
- Registered dogs are allowed from the day after Labor Day to May 1 at any time. From May 2 to Labor Day dogs are allowed from 6:00 PM until 8:00 AM. All dogs must be on a leash at all times. Droppings must be picked up and removed from the beach by the individual walking or having control of the dog. Dogs are prohibited from any area demarcated by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service or its partners, designees and agents as Piping Plover nesting areas.
- No vessel of any description shall be anchored, moored or beached in that area of Little Narragansett Bay known as the “Kitchen Area” of Napatree Point. This is the area around the Napatree Lagoon.
- No vehicles of any kind are allowed on Napatree, including bicycles.
- There are no lifeguards on Napatree, swim at your own risk.
- The consumption of alcohol is prohibited.
- No fires, camping, grills or fireworks are allowed at any time.
- The operation of drones (small unmanned aerial systems) is expressly forbidden.
- Entering areas roped off by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for the protection of nesting birds is prohibited. Violators may be prosecuted.
- Please use paths marked by the yellow poles. Crossing the dunes off approved paths is prohibited.
- Visitors assume any and all risks and consequences of harm.
